Maralinga’s Long Shadow – Review

I’ve just read Christobel Mattingley’s, “Maralinga’s Long Shadow – Yvonne’s Story”. It’s not very often that I sit down and read a book from cover to cover, but that is exactly what happened!

“Yvonne’s story” tells of the severe impact that the bombing programme had on the lives of many Aboriginal people. It also tells of the resilience and love for country, family and community and the dedication of Yvonne’s life to improve the lives of those around her.

The story is beautifully written. I came away feeling like I’d just shared a cuppa and an important life story with an old friend. Telling it how it is, when there has been so much injustice done by the authorities is what needs to occur. This story should be read by every student in high school. I’d also recommend it if you’re planning to go on the Maralinga Tour.
